A dry-type transformer is a transformer whose core and windings are not immersed in insulating oil, but rather use solid insulating materials (such as epoxy resin, Nomex paper, air, etc.) as the main insulating and cooling medium. It stands in stark contrast to the traditional "oil-immersed transformer".
