ACS580 Frequency Converter

The ACS580 is ABB's new generation of low-voltage AC general-purpose frequency converters for general industrial applications. It is a core model in the "fully compatible" drive family, with key advantages including full-featured built-in functions, ease of use, compatibility with asynchronous/permanent magnet motors, low harmonics, and high safety. It covers a power range of 0.37kW–500kW (wall-mounted) / 0.37kW–1.4MW (cabinet-mounted) and is suitable for variable torque and constant torque loads such as fans, pumps, conveyors, and mixers. It is widely used in municipal, industrial production, and commercial building applications and is a mainstream replacement for the ACS510/ACS550 by ABB Group.

Full Compatibility and Ease of Use

 

Shared control panel, tools, and user interface within the same family, reducing learning and maintenance costs; built-in application macros (pumps/fans/conveyors, etc.) reduce commissioning time by 70% (ABB Group).

Coated circuit boards are standard, protecting against condensation and dust, suitable for operating conditions from -25℃ to +60℃ (derating above 40℃).

 

High Efficiency and Motor Compatibility

 

Supports asynchronous/permanent magnet motor control; permanent magnet motor mode improves energy efficiency by 10%–20%; automatic energy-saving mode optimizes magnetic flux in real time, achieving energy savings of 20%–50% (ABB Group) for fans/pumps.

Controllable cooling fans reduce noise, suitable for sensitive scenarios such as commercial buildings and hospitals.

 

Safety and Reliability

 

Dual-channel SIL3 STO ensures no torque output during emergency shutdown; multiple protections (overload, overvoltage, undervoltage, short circuit, ground fault); electronic thermal relays are compatible with different motors.

Protection rating IP21 (wall-mounted), IP54 kit optional, suitable for outdoor/dusty environments.

 

Limitations

 

Primarily open-loop vector control, dynamic response is slightly inferior to the ACS880 closed-loop vector controller, unsuitable for high-precision positioning scenarios.

Medium-voltage models are more expensive, suitable for large projects, but not cost-effective for small applications.
